The Community of Madrid, Canal de Isabel II and Musealia are extending the ‘Auschwitz: not long ago, not far away’ exhibition at Madrid’s Canal Art Exhibition Centre until 7 October, after receiving over 350,000 visits since its launch in December.
The exhibition has attracted an average of 1,750 visitors a day, with peaks of 2,600 on weekends and public holidays. This makes the exhibition one of the season’s most popular in Madrid, the only Spanish city it will visit.
Interest among schoolchildren has been so high that all the 55,000 free tickets were quickly taken up. An extra 30,000 free tickets will be available for schools and youth camps during the extension.
The free tickets are provided by Canal de Isabel IIand Musealia. Theywill allow more than 3,000 school groups in Spain to find out more about the period and learn about the importance of defending human rights and respecting global diversity.
Tickets for the extension can be purchased from the Canal Art Exhibition Centreticket office or online at www.auschwitz.net.
The exhibition is a moving and close-up look at one of the darkest chapters in the history of humanity. It makes us reflect on the world we live in and serves as a universal warning of the dangers of hate and intolerance. After Madrid, the exhibition will visit six more cities in Europe and seven in North America. Full details will be revealed over the coming months.
