With over 45.000 tickets sold just before the opening on the 15th of March, the exhibition, which will be in Boston (MA) until the end of Summer has set an unprecedented record, selling out its first two weekends in the city.
“Auschwitz. Not Long Ago. Not Far Away” has just opened its doors at The Castle at Park Plaza in Boston (MA), the 7th city to welcome this exhibition since it was first shown to the public back in 2017.
Featuring over 700 original objects from the collections of the Auschwitz Birkenau State Museum and over 20 other international museums an institutions, this carefully curated exhibition, developed together with a panel of experts that include Dr. Robert Jan van Pelt (lead curator), Paul Salmons and Dr. Michael Berembaum, has already been visited by nearly 2 million people in its previous stops.
The exhibition shows the complex history of Auschwitz, from its creation as a German Nazi concentration camp to incarcerate Polish political prisoners, to its role as the major site of the Holocaust. In total, more than 1,1 million people were killed within its fences: the vast majority Jews but also Poles, Roma Sinti, Soviet Prisoners of War and other groups of victims.
During its time in Boston, “Auschwitz. Not Long Ago. Not Far Away” invites everybody on the East Coast and beyond to remember, to learn, and to honor the memories of those who perished in the Holocaust. It reminds us that the lesson of history must never be forgotten and that it is our responsibility to ensure that such atrocities never are repeated.
