The Romani Holocaust and the lack of recognition
During this lecture Roma information- and knowledge center (RIKC) will introduce their work and why it is important to work in both an individual, structural and discoursive level when it comes to issues regarding human rights. RIKC will also take us through the Roma Swedish and European history with the Holocaust, and also the consequences of the lack of recognition of the Romani Holocaust – a recognition that first came in the late 1980s that Roma, due to ethnic and racial grounds, were the target of Nazi extermination policies – as a central reference to then further look at Roma living conditions today and the Swedish national minority legislation.
