In mid-1944, when Germany invaded Hungary, plans were put into effect to press on with the Final Solution by deporting the almost 800,000 Hungarian Jews – who had until then escaped persecution – to Auschwitz.

Meanwhile, the young Spanish diplomat in Budapest Ángel Sanz Briz set about helping as many of them as he could, at times even placing his own life at risk. Thanks to his heroism and determination, around 5,000 Jews scaped from almost inevitable death.

A heroic and unknown story, presented in this conference by the experts José Antonio Lisbona, Julio Martín Alarcón, his son Juan Carlos Sanz Briz, and the Holocaust survivor Eva Benatar, saved by Sanz Briz when she was just a child.
